Sustainability
Located in one of the snowiest parts of the world (takes full advantage of its frosty weather), Sapporo, with a population of 1.9 million, is a metropolis with a harmony of rich nature and urban functions. Since its Eco-Capital Declaration in 2008, the City of Sapporo and the Sapporo Convention Bureau have been promoting sustainable actions based on the city’s SDGs Future City Plan and Tourism and Urban Development Plan to ensure that Sapporo continues to be a destination of choice for business events.
Sustainability Policy
We have established a sustainability policy to help us achieve our sustainability goals.
GDS-Index
Here at Sapporo Convention Bureau, we evaluate and benchmark our sustainability performance using the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index), a destination-level sustainability performance benchmarking program with over 100 members worldwide.
Carbon Offset
We work broadly with several initiatives to integrate a sustainability perspective in the business events operation, one of which is our carbon offset program. The program is aimed at supporting forest management and wildlife conservation programs around Hokkaido.
POINT
FYI
We offset all of our business travel, both domestic and international.

Accessibility

Indigenous Culture
The Ainu, the indigenous people of Hokkaido, have a special connection with nature. To ensure their culture, language, and traditions are kept alive, there are several museums and cultural centers in Sapporo (meaning: dry great river) and around Hokkaido.
